Overview: The AQ4021-51W is a particularly elegant limited edition from The Citizen, combining a traditional Tosa Washi “Unryushi” paper dial with polished gold-tone hands and markers. The fibrous white dial gives each viewing angle a different texture, while the restrained gold accents provide considerably more warmth than the standard monochromatic Washi models.

Despite its traditional appearance, underneath is one of Citizen’s most technically accomplished quartz movements: the solar-powered Caliber A060, rated to an extraordinary ±5 seconds per year.

History: Released on May 1, 2019, coinciding with the beginning of Japan’s Reiwa era, the AQ4021-51W was produced in just 300 pieces. Its dial uses Tosa Washi Unryushi (雲龍紙), a traditional Japanese paper characterized by long visible fibers incorporated into the surface. The original Japanese retail price was ¥380,000 before tax.

The watch was originally supplied with both its Super Titanium bracelet and an additional crocodile leather strap, allowing the character of the watch to shift considerably between contemporary and traditional dress-watch styling.
