Model: Seiko Prospex Alpinist SPB121

Overview:
The Seiko Prospex Alpinist SPB121 is the modern interpretation of one of Seiko’s most recognizable Alpinist designs. Featuring the collection’s signature deep green sunburst dial, gold-tone accents, cathedral hands and internal rotating compass bezel, the SPB121 retains much of the character that made its predecessor, the SARB017, a modern Seiko classic.

At just under 40mm, the SPB121 combines compact proportions with 200 meters of water resistance and the longer-running 6R35 automatic movement, creating a versatile modern sports watch with a distinctly vintage appearance.

History:
The Alpinist lineage can be traced back to the Laurel Alpinist of 1959, Seiko’s first watch developed specifically with recreational and outdoor use in mind. Over the following decades the Alpinist evolved considerably, eventually developing the distinctive internal compass bezel and dual-crown architecture now strongly associated with the collection.

Introduced in 2020, the SPB121 succeeded the immensely popular SARB017. While retaining its predecessor’s green-and-gold aesthetic, Seiko repositioned the Alpinist within the Prospex collection and introduced several technical upgrades, most notably a sapphire crystal, increased 200-meter water resistance and the Caliber 6R35 with approximately 70 hours of power reserve.

For collectors looking for the quintessential modern Alpinist, the SPB121 remains one of the defining references of the collection and a direct continuation of the green-and-gold design that helped establish the Alpinist as a modern Seiko icon.
