Model: Seiko SARD012 Rose Gold "x2 Retrograde Urushi" (2016)
Overview:
The rarest and most collectible out of the non Limited Edition SARD models, the 012 is a refined Presage model featuring an Urushi lacquer dial, showcasing traditional Japanese craftsmanship through 蒔絵 "Maki-E" a traditional Japanese technique which uses metal powders, giving the hands a frosted rose-gold look.
The dial uses Urushi Lacquer harvested from the verniciflum tree, giving it a glossy and deep/rich black colour.
History:
Released around 2007 as part of Seiko’s early Presage complication lineup, the SARD011 showcases one of Seiko’s more intricate automatic movements of its time.
The SARD line features a distinctive 6-hand layout with 3 recessed sub-dials, incorporating a power reserve indicator, retrograde day display, and date function. The retrograde mechanism adds a unique dynamic — once the hand reaches the end of its scale, it snaps back to the starting position.
