Overview:
The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time “Tequila Sunset” is one of the most vibrant and now increasingly difficult-to-find models from the Cocktail Time collection. Its defining feature is its spectacular gradient dial, shifting between salmon, copper and orange depending on the angle and intensity of the surrounding light.

The elaborate sunburst texture amplifies these color changes, creating a dial that can appear relatively subdued indoors before becoming dramatically brighter under direct lighting.

History:
The Presage Cocktail Time collection was created around the concept of translating the colors and atmosphere of classic cocktails into mechanical watch dials. The series became particularly well known for its elaborate dial finishing, offering highly textured and reflective surfaces at a considerably more accessible price point than many of Seiko’s higher-end collections.

The SRPE47J1 takes its inspiration from the Tequila Sunset cocktail, using its warm gradient dial to recreate the transition between red, salmon and orange tones associated with the drink. Produced for a relatively short period, the reference has since become increasingly difficult to find compared with many of the regular-production Cocktail Time models.

Closing Note:
The “Tequila Sunset” is an excellent showcase of what made the Presage Cocktail Time collection so successful: an unusually elaborate dial paired with straightforward and reliable mechanical watchmaking. Its salmon and copper-orange coloration changes considerably with the light, giving the watch far more visual presence than its relatively restrained 38.5mm dimensions would suggest.

With the model becoming increasingly difficult to encounter since its discontinuation, the SRPE47J1 is one of the more distinctive colorful executions from the Cocktail Time collection and an excellent example of Seiko’s ability to create memorable dial work at an accessible level.
