Overview:
Released in 2018, the Seiko Presage SRPC45J1 “Blue Planet” has quietly become one of the rarest and most sought-after regional Cocktail Time releases, with production limited to only 350 pieces for the Thai market. Contemporary Seiko release tracking confirms both the Thailand-market status and 350-piece production.

The centerpiece is its extraordinary electric-blue dial. The color is unusually difficult to describe accurately, shifting from brilliant sky blue to aquamarine and turquoise toward the center, while under different lighting conditions the entire dial can transform into substantially darker shades of blue.

It is also an exceptionally difficult dial to photograph. Even when captured with both DSLR and smartphone cameras, the intensity and particular turquoise-blue hue seen by the naked eye can be noticeably different from what appears through the camera.

History:
The SRPC45J1 was released in 2018 as one of a pair of extremely limited Cocktail Time models produced specifically for Thailand. The Blue Planet SRPC45J1 was accompanied by the SRPC46J1 “Manhattan Sky,” with each reference limited to just 350 pieces.

These Thai-market releases are particularly interesting within the wider Presage collection. While the fundamental Cocktail Time architecture remained familiar, Seiko experimented with much bolder colors than those generally found on the internationally distributed models.

The Blue Planet is perhaps the best example of this approach. Rather than the darker navy tones associated with watches such as the standard Blue Moon, the SRPC45J1 uses an exceptionally vivid electric blue/turquoise treatment that gives the familiar radial Cocktail Time dial an entirely different character.

Closing Note:
The Blue Planet is one of those rare watches where photographs genuinely struggle to communicate what the dial looks like in person. Its combination of the signature Cocktail Time radial pattern with an almost neon-like electric blue creates an effect that changes dramatically with both lighting and viewing angle. Other collectors have similarly described the dial as appearing more turquoise in person than photographs suggest.

Thailand has received some of Seiko’s most adventurous regional limited editions, and the SRPC45J1 is a particularly memorable example. Its unusually bold coloration gives it a completely different personality from the more restrained Cocktail Times released internationally.

Most importantly, only 350 examples were produced.  That makes the Blue Planet not simply an unusual dial variation, but one of the genuinely scarce releases within the modern Cocktail Time family and one that has become increasingly difficult to encounter years after its original 2018 release.
