The Grand Seiko SBGK015 “Ryusendo” is a limited edition of only 300 pieces released in 2022 as part of Grand Seiko’s Elegance Collection.
Its defining feature is its mesmerizing blue textured dial, inspired by the waters of Ryusendo Cave in Iwate Prefecture. The dial captures the shifting blue hues and sense of depth associated with the cave’s famously clear underground lakes, changing dramatically as it interacts with different lighting conditions.
The asymmetric dial layout places a running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, giving the SBGK015 an immediately recognizable appearance while maintaining the refinement expected of the Elegance Collection.
History:
Ryusendo Cave is located in Iwaizumi, Iwate Prefecture, the same prefecture in which Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches are produced at Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.
The SBGK015 draws its inspiration specifically from the mysterious blue waters found deep within the cave. Grand Seiko translated this natural scenery into an intricately textured blue dial whose appearance shifts from brighter aquatic blues to considerably deeper shades depending on the angle and intensity of the surrounding light.
Released in 2022 and limited to only 300 examples, the SBGK015 combines this distinctly Japanese inspiration with one of Grand Seiko’s more traditional manually wound mechanical movements.
