Overview:

A bold reinterpretation of Seiko’s experimental past, the SRPJ41 “Time Sonar” combines vintage-inspired elements with a modern transparent dial—revealing the movement of its calendar components in real time.

History:

Released in 2022 in collaboration with Kosuke Kawamura, the SRPJ41 draws direct inspiration from Seiko’s original Seiko Time Sonar models of the 1970s.

Rather than being a straight reissue, this piece is a curated fusion of multiple vintage references:

  • Checkered bezel inspired by a 1969 Seiko reference
  • Handset and dial elements from the 1976 Time Sonar
  • Dial ring cues from late 1960s Seiko designs

This layered approach reflects Kawamura’s collage-style design philosophy, blending different eras into a single cohesive piece.
