Model: Seiko Mechanical SARB026 “Checkered Dial” (Limited Edition of 250)
Overview: The Seiko SARB026 is one of the rarest and most distinctive references from the early SARB generation. Released exclusively for the Japanese domestic market in 2007 and limited to only 250 pieces, the SARB026 is immediately recognizable by its intricate brown checkered dial, warm gold-tone accents, and sharply faceted stainless-steel case. With production considerably lower than most celebrated SARB references, the SARB026 has become one of the true grails of the series and is seldom encountered on the secondary market.
History: Introduced in 2007 during the formative years of Seiko’s 6R15-powered Mechanical collection, the SARB026 appeared alongside references such as the SARB021, SARB025 and SARB045. While the other models were regular-production pieces, the SARB026 was produced as a special limited edition of just 250 examples.
The early SARB generation represents an important period in modern Seiko history, combining traditional mechanical watchmaking with increasingly sophisticated case finishing, sapphire crystals, and distinctive dial treatments. This case, dial and hand archetype becomes very important for Seiko as they have used the same design elements for their new EVO-9 Grand Seiko series.
