Model: Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SPB515
Overview:
The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SPB515 is arguably one of Seiko’s standout releases of 2025, combining the historical character of the Speedtimer collection with the construction and finishing expected from a modern Prospex mechanical chronograph.
The design brilliantly uses a restrained combination of grey and white with small touches of orange, creating excellent contrast. This is complemented by a case and bracelet featuring a mixture of brushed and highly polished surfaces, giving the watch a considerably more refined appearance than its utilitarian chronograph origins might suggest.
History:
The modern Speedtimer collection draws heavily from Seiko’s chronograph heritage, most importantly the 1969 Speedtimer and the development of the Caliber 6139, one of the world's earliest automatic chronograph movements.
Introduced in 2025, the SPB515 takes a distinctly retro approach to this history without attempting to simply recreate a vintage reference. Its compact case, contrasting chronograph registers, tachymeter scale and subtle orange detailing evoke the visual language of Seiko’s 1960s and 1970s sports chronographs, while its construction and modern automatic movement make it thoroughly contemporary in use.
