Overview:
The Grand Seiko SBGA431 is an exceptionally rare variation of the celebrated Snowflake, released in 2020 as a limited edition of only 181 pieces. Nicknamed “白虎” (Byakko / White Tiger), the watch combines Grand Seiko’s iconic Snowflake texture with a distinctive pearlescent white appearance and a striking deep-red seconds hand.

The dial takes on a subtle white pearly sheen under changing light, giving the familiar Snowflake texture a different character from the standard production model. Providing the only strong splash of color is the seconds hand, which transitions from a rich deep red to an almost translucent red under certain lighting conditions.

History:
Released in 2020, the SBGA431 was produced as an extremely small regional limited edition and represents one of the more obscure variations of Grand Seiko’s Snowflake design.

Although only 181 watches were produced, the casebacks are numbered out of 222. Numbers containing the digit four were omitted due to the number’s association with bad luck in parts of East Asian culture. This unusual numbering system makes the SBGA431 particularly interesting, with the actual production quantity being considerably smaller than the denominator engraved on the caseback would initially suggest.

This particular example carries the fortunate limited-edition number 212/222, an especially attractive number.
