Overview:
The Credor GCBZ997 is one of the more unusual mechanical GMT watches hidden within Credor's early-2010s catalogue, combining a true GMT movement with an intricate dial design unlike almost anything else produced by the brand.

The watch features an etched dial, a raised geometric motif that radiates outward from the center in a pattern reminiscent of a roulette wheel or dartboard, surrounded by intricate floral elements. Different levels of the dial are physically separated, creating considerable depth and allowing the pattern to change dramatically depending on the direction of light.

Beneath the unconventional design sits the Caliber 8L36, a high-grade automatic movement from Seiko's 8L family equipped with an independently adjustable local hour hand, making the GCBZ997 a true traveller's GMT. Credor's own documentation confirms the 8L36's time-zone adjustment, 24-hour hand and date functions.

History:
The GCBZ997 appeared around the beginning of the 2010s, during an interesting period in Credor's history when the company was producing an enormous variety of mechanical watches that rarely received much exposure outside Japan.

The GCBZ997 belonged to a small family of similarly unconventional Credor mechanical watches. Related references included other GMT models as well as mechanical chronographs such as the GCBK983 and GCBK985. Rather than following the restrained dress-watch aesthetic most commonly associated with Credor today, these watches experimented extensively with textures, colors, case construction and complex dial architecture.

The GCBZ997 is particularly distinctive because of its etched central dial. The combination of radial geometry and surrounding floral forms gives the design an appearance reminiscent of a roulette wheel or dartboard, although I have not found surviving Credor documentation identifying that as the official inspiration behind the motif.

Its movement is equally interesting. The 8L family occupies an unusual position within Seiko's mechanical hierarchy, sharing its fundamental architecture with the 9S family developed for Grand Seiko. For the GCBZ997, the Caliber 8L36 incorporates a GMT mechanism with an independently adjustable local hour hand. The movement was produced within Seiko's high-grade mechanical watchmaking ecosystem in Morioka, although I would avoid making the more specific claim that every GCBZ997 movement was individually assembled at Shizukuishi Watch Studio unless stronger period documentation emerges.
